A Message From Assistant Director Natalie Chang:

Hi everyone!

Let’s get the basics out of the way first: my name is Natalie Chang, and I’m an Assistant Director of Public Relations here at the Harvard Model United Nations conference 2012. I’m in the class of 2015, and I’m thinking about concentrating in Sociology or Social Studies. I’ll be updating this blog every couple of weeks to let you know how preparations for the conference are going, introduce you to some of our organs and staff members, and provide you with information on the conference itself and what you can do to start getting ready for what’s sure to be an amazing four days.

If you’re reading this post, hopefully you’re aware of what HMUN is and what we hope to achieve at our conferences. If not, I’ll give you a quick summary, taken directly from our website (www.harvardmun.org): “…HMUN strives to foster a constructive forum for open dialogue on complex global issues, including international peace and security and economic and social progress. HMUN stresses the in-depth examination and resolution of pressing issues, emphasizing process over product. During the conference, students learn the importance of balancing national interests with the needs of the international community, while also learning about the powers and limitations of international negotiation. Delegates will preserve their countries’ national policy while negotiating in the face of other, sometimes conflicting, international policies.”

I’m sure we’ll be getting some fascinating dialogues and discussions about current global issues out of the conference, and I look forward to hearing and posting about them! In the meantime, be sure to follow us on Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/harvardmodelun/) and like us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/harvardmodelun). There’ll be updates on important conference information, as well as plenty of entertaining accounts of how the staff is doing and what we’re planning for delegates.

Please also feel free to comment on my posts if you have questions or concerns if you’re not entirely sure where to direct them: I’ll do my best to answer them or tell you who you should get in contact with!

I’m looking forward to my future blog experience with all of you, and of course to seeing you all at the conference!

Until next time,

Natalie
