The Secretariat of HMUN 2013

Secretary-General

Stephen Ethan Lyle

Ethan is a senior majoring in Government.  He is originally from Atlanta, Georgia but now his family lives in the D.C. area.  Ethan has been involved in Model UN since his freshman year of high school and primarily participated as a delegate at THIMUN in The Hague.  At HMUN 2011, he directed SPECPOL in the General Assembly.  Ethan was also a Director for SPECPOL at HMUN India’s first session and directed DISEC at HMUN China.  More recently, Ethan served as the Under-Secretary-General for the Economic and Social Council & Regional Bodies at HMUN 2012.  Ethan is an avid college sports fan who also particularly enjoys the NFL and NBA!  It should go without saying, of course, that he is a big Florida Gators fan and hopes you are too. Email Ethan at secgen@harvardmun.org.

Director-General

Ainsley E. Faux

Ainsley is a senior studying Biomedical Engineering with a secondary field in Computer Science. He was born and raised in the suburbs of Washington D.C., but has spent his life traveling in Europe and Africa. He participated in his first Model UN conference in his freshman year at Harvard and was immediately hooked. He has been involved with the organization ever since, serving as your Under-Secretary General for Business at last years’ conference. In his free time, Ainsley enjoys listening to music, watching movies, and hanging out with friends. He would love to hear your suggestions about how to give you the best conference experience possible at dg@harvardmun.org.

USG-Administration

Miranda M. Ravicz

Miranda is a junior studying Neurobiology and wants to be a doctor when she grows up. She was born in Alaska (but is not an Eskimo) and grew up in Southern California. After she graduated from high school, she visited South Korea, Spain, and the Canary Islands before settling down in the International Relations Council at Harvard. She has also staffed the Specialized Agencies for HMUN China, HMUN India, and HNMUN (HMUN’s sister conference for college students). Miranda enjoys karaoke, picnics, and printing badges and placards. If you have questions or concerns about Harvard Model United Nations 2013, please feel free to email her and the Administration staff at info@harvardmun.org!

USG-Business

Da-Bin Ryu

Da-Bin is a Junior studying Economics and Government while pursuing a citation in Chinese. Originally born in Seoul, South Korea, she grew up in sunny southern California and now finds Adams House on Harvard campus to be her second home. Although she only fell in love with MUN in freshman year of college which has ultimately led her to become the Business USG, previously in MUN, she has various staffing experience such as in Administration, UNESCO and the IMF committee. Outside of MUN, Da-Bin loves cooking and baking, grabbing coffee with friends and watching movies. Email her at business@harvardmun.org!

Comptroller

Alexandra Harsacky

Alex is a senior studying History, with a focus on recent Middle Eastern political developments. Growing up, her family moved around the globe a lot, but she claims a tiny border town in South Texas to be home. Alex was exposed to Model UN at Harvard, and has since been hooked on international relations conferences. At HMUN, she is in charge of conference finances and couldn’t be happier, as she loves accounting and plans to go into business after college. In her free time, she enjoys reading the news, watching Jersey Shore, and going through receipts. Email Alex at comptroller@harvardmun.org.

USG-Innovation and Technology

Billy Gorman

Billy is a senior studying Government with an English secondary, although he will be the first to say he is pursuing a major in ‘Model UN’ with a secondary in ‘Harvard Academics.’ Since he first attended a Model UN conference three years ago, Billy has attended or staffed 18 Model UN conferences, including 3 HMUNs and 2 HMUN Chinas. Originally from Whitman, MA, Billy brings some local flavor to the HMUN 2013 staff. An avid Red Sox fan, he will readily give you his thoughts on the upcoming baseball season if approached. Billy’s other interests include running, Victorian and Gothic poetry, and karaoke. Feel free to approach him at conference with any ideas you have on how to improve the delegate experience, and you may also email him at innotech@harvardmun.org.

USG-General Assembly

Julia A. Solomon-Strauss

Julia is a junior at Harvard studying Social Studies (history, philosophy, and government). She lived her whole life before college in the city of Chicago, where she started Model UN about six years and more than twenty conferences ago. She also attended HMUN as a delegate, on the GA and on Security Council (which she directed last year). Besides her international-education pursuits on campus, Julia loves reading fiction, exploring cities, and playing music. Email Julia at ga@harvardmun.org.

USG-Economic and Social Council

Lisa L. Wang

Lisa Wang is a junior studying Government with a secondary in Ethnic Studies and language citation in French. Originally from the exotic land of central New Jersey, she is a current resident of Leverett House. Outside of MUN, she runs a citizenship tutoring program and works as a research assistant and an intern at a legal aid organization. During her free time, she enjoys honing her (not-anymore) secret talents for rapping, tea making, and speaking broken Polish. She looks forward to meeting you all very shortly! In the meantime, you can reach her at ecosoc@harvardmun.org.

USG-Specialized Agencies

Samuel H. Leiter

Sam is a junior at Harvard College, studying Psychology with a secondary field in Government and a language citation in Arabic. He is particularly passionate about the politics of intergroup relations and understanding people who do not want to be understood. Of course, these interests pale in comparison to his love for the ever-brilliant Specialized Agencies, and those who make them come alive! Originally from the New York City area, Sam now lives equally in Winthrop House and the HMUN office. He has been involved with Model United Nations since his freshman year of high school, and is currently active within the Harvard International Relations Council as a member of the Board of Directors. Outside of HMUN, Sam spends a great deal of time reading books that will eventually land him on the no-fly list, fighting caffeine withdrawal, and stumbling upon things. Email Sam at sa@harvardmun.org.
