Historical General Assembly

Gillian Farrell, Director

Class Year: 2013

Concentration: Chemistry

Hometown: Port Washington, NY (a small town on Long Island)

Favorite Place: My family’s home in Dublin, Ireland

Favorite Food: Baguette and olives

Favorite MUN Moment: My friend once convinced me to be an Expert Witness for her committee, a cabinet of Indian Rebels. What she didn’t tell me beforehand, was that I was going to be dressed as a belly dancer/”escort” in order to blackmail one of the delegates. Needless to say, it was an interesting experience.

Why did you choose this topic? I chose the Soviet Occupation of Afghanistan because I find it incredibly interesting that so much of the contemporary relations between the Middle East and the rest of the world can be traced back to this one event. It makes me really think about how a few small decisions can cause a chain of events that impact millions of people, decades into the future.

HMUN is the best because… of all of you!

Topic: The Soviet Occupation of Afghanistan, 1980
