World Trade Organization

Damon Meng, Director

Class Year: 2013

Concentration: Economics

Hometown: Old Bridge, NJ

Favorite Place: Shanghai, China

Favorite Food: I like everything, except for food at the Harvard freshman dining hall.

Favorite MUN Moment: At closing ceremony, seeing people rewarded for their efforts and creativity.

Why did you choose these topics?

Trade and the environment:
I kept seeing headlines about climate change summits, debates, and discussions. I knew nothing about what was going on other than the usual “must invest in renewable energy” spiel. I wanted to see the deeper aspects of the debate and what progress has been made and can be made.

Building trade capacity:
The most effective way for developing countries to assimilate into the world economy is to build up trade. As these countries build up trade capacities, they will reshape the global economic order. It’s time to learn about this phenomenon right when it’s starting.

HMUN is the best because… high school students sometimes have the most creative and interesting things to say.
