HMUN China 2011

A truly international experience

It is my distinct pleasure to invite you and your delegation to Harvard Model United Nations China 2011! The conference will take place from Thursday, March 17 to Sunday, March 20, 2011 in Shanghai, China.

For 57 years, HMUN has served as the premier forum for high school students from around the globe to discuss the most pressing international issues. Through preparing and debating solutions to the complex problems plaguing today’s global community, delegates develop expertise in public speaking, writing, and research. In March 2010, with the help of WEMUN China, HMUN went global for the first time to Beijing, furthering our mission of bringing international relations experience to students around the world. As one of the fastest growing economies, China provides an exciting backdrop for fresh outlooks in committee debate. Shanghai in particular provides a unique perspective into China’s rich cultural history and recent economic growth.

For the first session of HMUN hosted in Shanghai, the best Directors of HMUN Boston and its college counterpart, HNMUN, were selected to run smaller, more intimate committees for a new group of primarily international students. In addition to the traditional General Assembly, Regional Bodies, and Economic and Social Council committees, we also offer special application positions in the Specialized Agencies and the Non-Governmental Organizations Program. The directors of HMUN China are carefully selected and trained to ensure delegates have the most stimulating and focused debates possible. However, HMUN China is an experience that extends beyond the discussions in the committee room. Delegates are encouraged to interact with one another after committee sessions at our social events, such as the Delegate Dance and Global Village. In addition, the delegates are encouraged to explore all that the city of Shanghai has to offer before, during, and after conference.

Please email me at secgen@hmunchina.org if you are considering attending, and I will make sure to update you with further details. In addition, be sure to keep checking back here for updates!

On behalf of the HMUN China staff and WEMUN China, I hope to see you in Shanghai for HMUN China 2011!

Sincerely,

Kerry F. Yang
Secretary-General
