Scandal Builds Legacy: Bridgeton, 1813

Topic Summary

Welcome to London, the year is 1815, and the social season has officially commenced. Beneath the sparkling ballrooms, exquisite estates, and carefully manicured reputations of the Ton is a city fueled by rivalry, ambitious mothers, and political maneuvering. While noble families are busy competing for influence at court and favorable marriage alliances, a series of tense financial disputes, anonymous publications, and scandals threatens the success of a successful season for all of high society. The whispers of instability are growing, and far beyond the dance floor, especially as the Crown grows outwardly concerned about tensions between high-ranking families and potential unrest among the lower classes.

In this Bridgerton-inspired committee, delegates will have to balance reputation, loyalty, and ultimate political strategy while responding to constantly shifting alliances, public scrutiny, and crises that arise. Above all, delegates will be responsible for determining the future of the Ton, whether that includes preserving order or a future of high society that’s reshaped by scandal and reckless ambition.

Greetings delegates,

Welcome to Harvard Model United Nations, and to Bridgerton!

My name is Hanley, and I’m a rising junior at the College studying Molecular and Cellular Biology and Government. I’m an active member of the MUN community at Harvard, competing with our intercollegiate team and serving as Co-Director of Crisis Training. I have staffed many iterations of HMUN, both in Boston and beyond!

Beyond MUN, I lead pre-orientation trips through the First-Year Outdoor Program, engage with service work on campus, and conduct research at Boston Children’s! In my free time, I love listening to live music, hiking, and trying new pasta recipes.

I am beyond excited to serve as your Director for this Bridgerton-inspired committee, and I look forward to seeing how you navigate the unpredictable nature of scandals, rivalries, and political chaos that threaten the status of the social season. From rumors that spread faster than notes in committee to constantly shifting alliances, this committee will challenge delegates to think outside of the box and adapt quickly!

As a crisis delegate, my favorite committees are those built on chaos and creativity, and I can’t wait to see what you all bring to the table.

If you have any questions before the conference, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

See you in Boston,

Hanley

Dearest Reader,

It is my pleasure to be crisis directing a committee for this session of HMUN! My name is Ella, and I am originally from Burnaby, Canada — bonus points if you know what province that is in. I am a sophomore studying Government and Economics with aspirations to work in public service. Currently, I compete on Harvard’s Model UN team and have attended a conference in both Boston and San Francisco. Considering I got into Model UN fairly recently, I understand the nerves you may be feeling. Rest assured, my primary goal is to support your development as a delegate.

When not competing, I enjoy playing niche sports, writing for our student publications, drinking far too many mango smoothies, and binging “I WILL STAY” CapCut edits. Bridgerton has a close place in my heart for its elaborate blend of classical ideas with modern questions. In this world of fantasy, we see scandals that usurp powerful families, marriages that question loyalties, and love that stays with us as the credits roll. Delegates are encouraged to rewrite their character’s story in a way that leaves committee members stunned.

As always, I hope that you will leave the conference feeling challenged but more confident in your ability as speakers, delegates, and leaders.

I await to see who the diamond of this season will be.

Yours Truly,

Lady Ella Ricketts

Crisis Director, Bridgerton
