The Gods Have Fallen: Percy Jackson

Topic Summary

In the wake of the Second Titan War, the world of gods and demigods stands at a fragile crossroads. What once seemed like a hard-won era of peace—marked by the inclusion of minor gods and a reformed Camp Half-Blood—has begun to unravel. At the heart of this growing uncertainty lies a crisis: Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon and a pillar of the demigod world, has vanished. Stranger still, the Olympian gods themselves have fallen silent, their absence casting a shadow of doubt, fear, and speculation across the camp. Whispers of Gaea, the primordial Earth goddess, rising once more from Tartarus only deepen the sense that this disappearance is no coincidence, but the prelude to something far more dangerous.

It is in this moment of instability that Chiron has convened the Board of Senior Counselors—the highest decision-making body within Camp Half-Blood. As leaders and representatives of both Olympian and minor god cabins, you are tasked with navigating a crisis that threatens not just the camp, but the balance between gods and mortals alike. With no divine guidance and tensions mounting, the responsibility to lead, strategize, and act now rests solely on your shoulders.

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the Percy Jackson Committee at Harvard Model United Nations Boston 2027! I am incredibly excited to serve as your director and to guide you through a weekend filled with mythology, chaos, strategy, and probably at least a few catastrophic decisions worthy of the gods themselves. Whether you arrive as a seasoned demigod of Model UN or this is your first quest into committee, I hope this experience challenges you to think creatively, speak boldly, and embrace the unpredictability that makes crisis committees so memorable.

My name is Yavuz Atlamaz, and I am a freshman at Harvard College pursuing a joint concentration in Government and Philosophy with a secondary in History. I am originally from Indiana, and Model UN has been one of the most defining parts of my life for the past five years. What started as a simple extracurricular quickly became the place where I found my voice, developed my confidence, and discovered my passion for debate, diplomacy, and storytelling. Now, as a member of Harvard’s Intercollegiate Model UN Team, I am thrilled to help create that same experience for all of you at HMUN Boston.

Outside of committee, I am a huge fan of basketball, soccer, and football, and I spend an unreasonable amount of time thinking about politics, history, and philosophy. At Harvard, I am also involved with the Undergraduate Foreign Policy Initiative, the Turkish Students Association, and the Harvard International Review.

I cannot wait to meet all of you and see the alliances, rivalries, and legendary moments that emerge over the course of committee. Until then, prepare yourselves — the gods rarely make things easy.

Sincerely,

Yavuz Atlamaz

Director, Percy Jackson

Dear Delegates,

It is my distinct honor to welcome you to Camp Half-Blood. Over the course of the weekend, I look forward to guiding a dynamic, imaginative, and solutions-driven committee as we navigate the trials and quests that define the world of Percy Jackson. Much like demigods preparing for battle, you will be challenged to think creatively, act decisively, and collaborate under pressure. I am excited to watch you grow as delegates and to see the ingenuity you bring to this mythological setting.

My name is Roberto Carmona, and I am a sophomore at Harvard College studying Social Studies, with a secondary in Arabic and Italian. I was born and raised in Cuba, and Model United Nations has played a central role in my life—it is actually how I learned English! After immigrating to the United States at age 14, MUN became a space where I developed the fluency and confidence I could not gain through translation tools alone. What began as a necessity quickly became one of my greatest passions.

In high school, I competed with Miami’s top-ranked Model UN team, earning accolades across the Florida circuit. At Harvard, I am now a member of the Intercollegiate Model UN Team, which has allowed me to travel across the country doing what I love most. Outside of MUN, I like to consider myself part of the top 1% of Percy Jackson fans in the world. A son of Poseidon myself, I cannot wait to see the divine actions you’ll carry out throughout the course of committee.

At Harvard, I am involved with the Cuban American Undergraduate Association, the Institute of Politics, and International Relations on Campus. Last summer, I interned at the European Parliament for MEP Brando Benifei, where I deepened my understanding of transatlantic relations between Europe and the United States.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions—whether about committee strategy or surviving your next quest. I am here to support you both inside and outside of committee. I look forward to seeing your ideas in action.

Best,

Roberto
