Ad Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General

Advanced Committee

Due to the nature of the topic being unreleased, position papers will not be necessary for delegates in either of our Ad Hoc Committees.

Welcome to the Ad Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General! As for the topic? It’s a mystery…

This committee is typically better suited for delegates with prior Model UN experience due to its fast-paced, unusual nature, but all are welcome. Delegates will need to be adaptable, creative, and knowledgeable to ensure their success in this committee. Keep in mind: anything can happen in the Ad Hoc! Good luck, delegates!

Dear Delegates,

It is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the best committee at Harvard Model United Nations 2027- the Ad-Hoc!

My name is Andrea Arantza González Trujillo, and I will be your Director for this conference. I am originally from Querétaro, México, but moved to Charleston, South Carolina, when I was 13 and then to Mississippi at 18. I am a rising senior at Harvard College, completing a double major in Biomedical Engineering in the Engineering Sciences and Philosophy, with a secondary in Government. In the future, I plan to work in private philanthropy and philanthropic investing, particularly focused on homelessness and healthcare. After that, I would love to go to law school and work in healthcare policy.

I have participated in the Model United Nations since I was 14 years old. It is crazy to think about this being my last year in MUN. It has been such a big part of my life and my college experience. Within Harvard MUN, I am a member of ICMUN, Harvard’s competitive MUN team. As a competitor, I have participated in both GA and crisis committees. As a staffer, I have a deep love for crisis. I have worked as an AD, crisis director, and director at HNMUN and HMUN for the past 4 years. I was also the Secretary General for Harvard National Model United Nations- Latin America 2027 this past January.

Outside of MUN, I volunteer at Harvard Square’s Homeless Shelter and EVKids, a tutoring program for Boston’s underserved youth. I am also a senior editor of Harvard’s Health Policy Review and a member of the Crimson Key Society and Harvard’s Catholic Center. When I am not working, I love getting food or going thrifting with my friends. I also love watching all types of documentaries, one of which inspired this committee topic!

I am immensely excited for this Ad-Hoc committee- my very last committee! This committee will ask delegates to engage with difficult topics intimately and find practical solutions to complex issues. Throughout the conference, I will seek delegates who can propose and implement quality solutions to the discussed problems. Above all, I will look for delegates who can defend their positions with leadership while maintaining a collaborative and respectful environment. I know how nerve-wracking competing can be; I felt it when I first competed at 14, and I still feel it now. If you have any questions, concerns, or need words of encouragement, I am happy to be at your service.

I am excited to be your director and cannot wait to meet y’all!

Saludos!

Andy Gonzalez Trujillo

Hello Delegates!

Welcome to the Adhoc committee and I am very excited to be your Crisis Director.

I am Promise Abawa, a Junior pursing a double concentration in Economics and Psychology with a secondary in Philosophy. I was born in Ethiopia but was mostly raised in Texas. I was introduced to MUN in college and am very happy to be part of the Harvard ICMUN team. Surprisingly enough, MUN and heel shopping are not the only aspects of my college career. I also engage in creative writing, consulting, and serve as a mental health counselor at the college.

As a Crisis Director I look forward to seeing arcs that can recreate this well-known practice into one of our own. I love to see well-thought out strategic arcs and create a chaotic committee overall. I enjoy seeing new ways to stretch the creative liberty that crisis provides us with the addition of structured persuasive debates.

That's enough out of me, but I look forward to making this committee unlike any other and witnessing every single one of your sinister agendas.

Promise Abawa
