Topic Summary
Delegates will participate in UNESCO’s efforts to advance global scientific development and strengthen international cooperation in education. As scientific progress becomes essential to tackling global challenges, the research capacity and technology access of different countries will become critical in shaping the future of scientific innovation. In the October session, delegates will examine strategies to promote scientific development by expanding research capacity, education, and technological innovation. In the December session, delegates will specifically address the immediate educational gaps and technology disparities created by COVID-19 and consider how governments can mitigate these challenges across countries.
Dear Delegates,
It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to UNESCO for the 2027 session of Harvard National Model United Nations! I am honored to serve as your Director and am very excited to work alongside you and your incredible problem solving and teamwork skills.
My name is Antara Martins and I am a sophomore living in Leverett House studying Government and Philosophy. I was born and raised in London, UK, so moving to the United States was definitely a huge change, but such a rewarding experience. I now compete for Harvard’s Intercollegiate Model United Nations Team (ICMUN) and serve as their Director of Affairs.
Outside of MUN, I compete on the Mock Trial team here (unfortunately I live to argue), where I serve as their Seminars Director, organizing our educational program for high school students. In my free time I love to explore Boston, try new restaurants with my friends, read thriller novels, watch 2000s Rom-Coms, karaoke and stay up all night debriefing with my roommates. I hope to go to law school one day and practice on the corporate side-- specializing in mergers and acquisitions.
