Letter from the Secretary-General

Dearest Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

It is an honor and a privilege that I get to welcome you all to the Seventy-Second Session of Harvard Model United Nations from Thursday, January 30, 2025 to Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Boston, Massachusetts.

My name is Calvin Osborne, a senior at Harvard College studying a joint concentration in mathematics and philosophy, and I am humbled to be serving as your Secretary-General for the upcoming iteration of our conference. I have participated in Model United Nations since my sophomore year of high school, and this activity means just as much for me now, after competing over fifteen times on the collegiate circuit, as it did at my first conference in high school. Harvard Model United Nations has been an integral part of my time at Harvard—serving as an Assistant Director, Director, and then as the Under-Secretary-General of the Specialized Agencies for Harvard Model United Nations 2024, this community has become a home for me, just as it has become a home to so many students from across the country and beyond.

There are a multitude of challenges that face our world today, and, as rising leaders in this ever tumultuous world, it is Harvard Model United Nations’ mission to help prepare our delegates with the skills that they need to succeed, from public speaking and substantive research to leadership and diplomacy. In each delegate’s preparation for and participation in the conference, they will learn how to work with others to problem solve and develop solutions for the world’s most pressing and complicated problems.

As the oldest, largest, and most prestigious Model United Nations conference of its type, hundreds of Harvard College students and thousands of high school delegates and their faculty advisors will come together in Boston next January, bringing together some of the most promising and ambitious students from across the world to collaborate together and grow both as individuals and as leaders.

I am excited to expand upon the vision and goals of Harvard Model United Nations in the following year—from furthering our substantive excellence, innovating our committee offerings, and streamlining our executive services, my Secretariat and I are excited to make the Seventy-Second Session of Harvard Model United Nations as strong as it can be. Please do not hesitate to reach out to info@harvardmun.org with any questions or concerns that you may have during your registration process or preparations for the conference.

Once again, I could not be more excited to welcome you all to the Seventy-Second Session of Harvard Model United Nations in the coming year.

With Immense Gratitude,

Calvin S. Osborne
