Zombie Apocalypse
Topic Summary
The year is 2030, and nations across the globe are on the brink of collapse. Merely 10 years after the coronavirus pandemic halted travel across the globe and shut down daily life, a new kind of infection seems posed to threaten humanity’s continued existence on Earth: the zombie plague. Believed to be some sort of variant or descendant of Entomophthora muscae, a kind of bacteria that latches onto houseflies and takes control of their body, the zombie plague has somehow evolved to do the same to humans. Those who are infected seem to slowly lose control and consciousness over the course of a week, until they transform into what can only be described as a zombie intent on spreading the plague. As of now, cases of the zombie plague are appearing in pockets of rural areas in all six inhabited continents and are only beginning to spread to cities. Nevertheless, the early stage of the outbreak has not prevented mass public hysteria and misinformation from spreading rapidly, leaving governments across the globe scrambling to maintain public order. In response to this, representatives from the countries of the world have gathered in a quarantined compound built by Harvard scientists in the heart of Boston. Delegates must work together to determine the origins of the Zombie plague, manage public unrest, and mount a response to the gravest threat faced by humanity.
Dear Delegates,
My name is Rohith, and I am a sophomore at Harvard College studying Math and Computer Science, with a secondary in European History. Hailing from Sharon, Massachusetts, I have long been interested in international relations and politics, serving as Secretary-General of my high school’s Model United Nations club. At Harvard, I compete on behalf of the Harvard Intercollegiate Model United Nations (ICMUN) team and serve as a director for the HMUN Boston and HNMUN conferences. Apart from MUN, I am a campus tour guide with the Crimson Key Society and a research assistant at the Harvard Systems and Theory Group. On campus, you can find me visiting new restaurants with friends (ask me for recommendations!) or taking walks around the Charles River. I look forward to meeting delegates for a weekend of zombies and debate at HMUN 2027!
Sincerely,
Rohith Ragahavan
