The Assassination of Julius Caesar, 44 BCE
Topic Summary
The Ides of March have come—and with them, the brutal assassination of Julius Caesar. Rome is thrown into turmoil as senators, generals, and members of Caesar’s inner circle rush to fill the power vacuum left behind. In a city teetering between republic and empire, old alliances fracture, new ones form, and every word spoken in the Senate could mean life or death. This committee invites delegates into a world of political intrigue, betrayal, and ambition, where securing power requires equal measures of strategy and ruthlessness. The fate of Rome hangs in the balance—will it return to republican rule, or march toward imperial destiny?
Dear all,
Welcome to the 73rd iteration of Harvard Model United Nations. My name is Kiri-Anna Kingsbury Lee and I am honored to serve as your director for this committee. I am a sophomore at Harvard College pursuing a double concentration in Government and Biology. I hail from New Zealand but I grew up all around the United States. Outside of HMUN, I am also a member of Harvard’s premier intercollegiate Model United Nations team.
In this committee, your presence in the front room – delivering engaging speeches and electing collaboration over sabotage – is equally important as your backroom. As a director, I value the contributions of delegates who synthesize in-depth preparation with outside-the-box thinking. You should arrive to committee well-researched in your facts but ready to adapt efficiently and effectively to dramatic developments that subvert anything you might have known about this period in history. Demonstrate diplomacy, but do not shy from ingenuity (and preferably theatrics).
I am excited about the breadth of knowledge, enthusiasm, and creativity you will no doubt bring to this committee. See you soon in Boston.
Until then,
Kiri-Anna Kingsbury Lee

Dear Delegates,
Welcome to the 2026 session of the Harvard Model United Nations conference, where I hope you find a multitude of experiences and memories you can cherish for years to come! It is my pleasure to serve as your Crisis Director for the Assassination of Julius Caesar, where we will be dealing with the aftermath of Caesar's death, navigating the shifting undercurrents of Roman politics as people scramble for power and legitimacy.
My name is Pranathi Ganti, a sophomore at the College living in Cabot House. I will prospectively be studying Neuroscience with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy and a citation in Spanish. I first joined the Model UN team in my freshman year of college and immediately found myself surrounded by some of the most fun, vibrant people on campus. I have loved traveling all across the states, meeting new individuals, and honestly just having a great time competing on the circuit. As both a GA and Crisis delegate, I hope that my experience can be valuable to you all!
In my free time, you can definitely catch me doom-scrolling without end, reading thrillers that may give me nightmares, and making horrible yet endlessly funny dad jokes! I am excited to meet you all and hope you feel comfortable reaching out anytime for any questions or concerns you may have.
Sincerely,
Pranathi Ganti
