HMUN Secretariat, 2026 CE

Topic Summary

Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes of your favorite Model United Nations conference? Welcome to the HMUN Secretariat Committee of HMUN 2026! You will navigate through the intricacies of planning the most successful high school conference of all time, all while vying for the top spot in this current state of crisis. With the Secretary General missing, and the conference only weeks away, someone will need to step up, take the reins, and bring this conference to fruition. Delegates should expect characters to include top members of the Secretariat, Harvard representatives, and not yet revealed additional players. The conference will operate similarly to a traditional crisis with directive rounds and back room notes, though the topic will be anything but traditional!

background guide

Good Day Delegates,

Allow me to be one of the first to welcome you to Harvard Model United Nations 2026, and–even more importantly–to the HMUN Secretariat!

My name is Victor Bowker, and I am a Junior at Harvard College. I am pursuing a concentration in Government as well as a Language Citation in Mandarin.

Born and raised 45 minutes south of Cambridge, in Scituate, Mass, I grew up on the water. Spending my summer days tanning and teaching sailing was the ultimate gig, and it will forever be the best job I’ve ever had. If you ever have the opportunity to learn the art of sailing, I highly recommend it.

At Harvard, I compete with the Intercollegiate Model United Nations where I almost exclusively compete in crisis committees–other than that horrific GA in NYC a few semesters back…don’t ask. I staffed both HMUN and HNMUN (for college kids) last year as a Director and Crisis Director and I am so excited to be directing my own committee again this year! I am eager to bring tips and tricks from the college circuit to ensure this committee runs as smoothly as possible. I consider myself a very exciting person, and you should expect committee to follow in that direction.

This will be a long weekend, and at times you will be tired and want to quit, but in the words of the ICMUN team, I behoove you to not go down. There will be many twists and turns to this committee, and I encourage you to learn and get as much out of this weekend as you can!

My final thought. Ask questions. Then ask some more. And once you think you have run out of questions, ask another. I would love to discuss anything from college to Fortnite to sailing. We are going to have an outstanding conference.

See you soon,

Victor Bowker

Most esteemed delegates,

Welcome to HMUN 2026, and welcome to the most thrilling committee to grace our conference: the HMUN Secretariat! Prepare yourself to experience it all in committee — our days together will be busy, thorough, fun, adventurous, educational, and thrilling! You and your fellow delegates will strategize, debate, scheme, persevere — all while making meaningful friends and memories that you will remember for the rest of your lives. Get ready for an incredible time!

My name is Nuriel R. Vera-DeGraff, and I’ll be crisis-directing the HMUN Secretariat. I’m a senior at Harvard College studying Mathematics and Social Studies — an interdisciplinary social science concentration — and I was born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Spanish and Haitian parents.

Having competed in Model UN throughout high school and leading my school’s team, I’ve continued fostering my love for the MUN world at Harvard, where I’ve crisis-directed a committee at HMUN 2025 and competed for Harvard’s Inter-Collegiate MUN team.

When not directing or competing, I love the act of philosophy, editing opinion journalism, running long distances, playing chess and poker with my friends, solving Rubik’s cubes, improving my whistling, and playing classical piano.

I can’t wait to get to know you all and answer any questions you might have about MUN, crisis, college, or anything else imaginable. Let’s get started!

Sincerely,

Nuriel R. Vera-DeGraff
